Comcast Increases Internet Speeds for Majority of Customers from Maine to Virginia

Comcast today announced it is significantly increasing the speeds of two of its most popular Internet speed tiers – Blast! and Performance Pro – for both new and existing customers in the Northeast Division, which includes 14 northeastern states from Maine through Virginia and the District of Columbia. Most Blast! customers will see their download speeds increase from 150 Mbps to 200 Mbps, and Performance Pro customers will see an increase from 75 Mbps to 100 Mbps, both at no additional cost. Most customers who currently subscribe to Xfinity bundles with these speed tiers will automatically be upgraded to the new speeds.

These latest increases demonstrate Comcast’s ongoing commitment to continue to increase speeds for its customers, as it has done almost every year for more than a decade, in order to stay ahead of the ever expanding number of Internet applications and connected devices in the home.

“As customer demands and technology evolve, we continue to increase our broadband speeds to deliver the fastest and most reliable Internet experiences possible, both inside and outside of the home,” said Kevin Casey, President of Comcast Cable’s Northeast Division. “We’re always looking for new ways to meet and exceed customer expectations, and have built a state-of-the-art network capable of continuing to deliver best-in-class speed and capability as the Internet world progresses.”

The faster speeds and tiers started rolling out October 18, and are now available to the vast majority of new and existing customers. Customers subscribing to Blast! or Performance Pro bundles will see their download speeds increase by 33 percent to 200 Mbps and 100 Mbps, respectively. To get the increased speeds, customers simply need to re-start their modems. Comcast will also notify customers who may need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds. Customers who lease modems from Comcast will be able to receive upgraded modems at no additional charge. Customers who own their own modems and need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds will need to purchase a new modem (a list of approved modems can be found online at http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/) or can lease a new modem from Comcast.

In addition to increasing speeds for its Northeast Division customers, Comcast continues to offer the fastest wireless gateway, and most Xfinity Internet customers can enjoy complimentary access to more than 15 million Xfinity WiFi hotspots nationwide by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Xfinity ID or email and password. Hotspots can be found by either downloading the Xfinity WiFi App, available for free on iOS and Android devices, or by visiting the hotspot finder map on www.xfinity.com/wifi. Additionally, Comcast provides consumers with tips on how to create the best in-home Wi-Fi experience, out of home Wi-Fi experience, and how to shop safely online.

Comcast has invested billions of dollars in its network, locally and nationally, to meet consumer demand not only by offering the fastest, most reliable Internet speeds over its fiber-rich network, but also by providing the fastest in-home Wi-Fi experience for our customers. We deliver the fastest speeds to the most homes in the country and have increased speeds 17 times in the last 15 years, now delivering speeds in most of the Northeast Division from 10 Mbps up to 2 Gbps for residential customers and up to 100 Gbps for business customers. We also offer the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program, Internet Essentials, which provides low-cost broadband service for $9.95 a month, digital literacy training and discounted computers for low-income Americans.
