Comcast Recruits Veterans at Fenway Park

We believe that service matters and that’s one reason why Comcast NBCUniversal committed to hiring 10,000 veterans by the end of 2017.

As part of that commitment, we participated in the US Chamber of Commerce Hiring Our Heroes job fair at Fenway Park on Tuesday.  More than 300 job-seeking veterans were met by 25 members of the Comcast team representing the Greater Boston Region, Northeast Division as well as recruiters from Comcast Spotlight and NBCUniversal.

Not only are we hiring veterans, but we support employees who continue their service in the National Guard and Reserves through these special programs:

  • We offer 15 days paid time off annually for National Guard and Reserve employees for military training in addition to normal paid time off.
  • We also match the difference between our Guard/Reserve member’s base pay and their Comcast NBCUniversal salary, and provide continued benefits (health, 401(k), etc.) for up to three years if they are called to active duty while employed with us
  • We have a dedicated Military Service Team helping our managers, our National Guard and Reserve employees and their families better understand our enhanced benefits and policies, and to assist them through any military-related transition events (military-related relocation, deployment, etc.).

“An event like this allows both veterans and currently serving Guard or Reservists to pick up a job, upgrade a job and provide for their families,’’ said Adjutant General Gary W. Keefe, Air National Guard of Massachusetts. “And, as I say to all hiring managers, you will get a better employee in a veteran or current Guardsman or Reservist – they will make great companies even better.”

Beyond hiring veterans and providing comprehensive benefits to meet their needs when they are deployed, Comcast has also cultivated a dynamic Employee Resource Group (ERG) with more than 5,000 VetNet members across Comcast NBCUniversal.  Locally, there are more than 200 active members of the VetNet Greater Boston group, which empowers its members—Veterans and Veteran Supporters—by providing mentorship, peer-to-peer support and service opportunities while developing their career.

Benjamin Pintor Jr., part of the Greater Boston Region’s Comcast Business team, was one of the VetNet employee ambassadors who participated in this Hiring Our Heroes event and noted, “As I shared with my fellow veterans, I’ve found Comcast to be supportive of my family and personal needs, which has been very helpful with my transition from military to civilian life.  Plus, the comradery between every colleague lending a hand and supporting each other to help our customers and help other employees get the job done has been rewarding.”

In the days ahead, the Comcast HR team has nearly 50 follow up interviews with planned with potential candidates to fill roles across the business.
