Saturday, April 21st was the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day, which we believe is the nation’s largest single day of community service organized by any company. Also, this year, we surpassed an historic milestone – more than one million volunteers have joined in service to improve their communities around the world since 2001.
Comcast Cares Day is a special day all employees and nonprofit partners look forward to all year long. This post revisits the day from a local, Boston area perspective.
In Massachusetts alone, nearly 5,000 local Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners made change happen as they volunteered to improve 45 sites across Massachusetts as part of the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day.
We’re proud of the hard work by our employee volunteers, friends and family members on Comcast Cares Day and every day of the year they give back to the communities where our customers live and work. However, none of this would have been possible without great community partners.
Here’s what some of our community partners had to say about what Comcast Cares Day meant to them in their own words:
Angie Liou, Executive Director
Asian Community Development Corporation
“We’re heartened to see so many volunteers come out to Chinatown today to learn about the challenges this community is facing and to roll up their sleeves to pitch in and help us improve and preserve Chinatown. We are grateful to Comcast for this partnership and look forward to more collaborative opportunities in the future.”
Sandra Lopez Burke, VP and Executive Director
City Year Boston
“Every year, City Year Boston looks forward to Comcast Cares Day as our opportunity to celebrate our partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal, and our shared commitment to serving local communities. We’re excited to brighten spaces where students learn and play in the Chinatown neighborhood, and ready to roll up our sleeves alongside so many dedicated community leaders and volunteers at this special event.”
Heather McMann, Executive Director
“This is our ninth year of partnering with Comcast, clear proof of their commitment to Lawrence and our community. This year, volunteers in Lawrence were focused on cleaning parks, planting trees, building gardens, a massive effort that really demonstrates the vibrancy and pride in our community. We are thrilled that this year, Comcast is partnering with our sister organizations Groundwork Somerville and Groundwork Southcoast, creating a chain of environmental volunteers through Eastern Massachusetts in Lawrence, Somerville, Fall River, and New Bedford.”
Thanks again to all of our volunteers and community partners. You can read more about Comcast Cares Day here and its positive impact throughout 1,000 different nonprofits in the US and around the Globe.
We’re already working on and looking forward to Comcast Cares Day 2019!
